28 Days: Cape Town - Cairo / Cape Town

An Epic Journey of African Adventure

Rovos Rail introduces the 2010 itineraries for this exclusive Cape - Cairo or Cairo - Cape journey. Travel by luxury train and plane from Cape Town - Cairo or Cairo - Cape Town. Cecil John Rhodes dreamt of travelling between Cape Town and Cairo by Train; a Trans Africa safari by rail. Rovos Rail invites you on a journey of discovery and adventure through some of the most historic and scenic areas of Africa. For 28 days a luxury train and comfortable aircraft will carry you in world-class style and comfort from Cape Town to Cairo, or from Cairo to Cape Town, uniting by rail and air the republics of South Africa and Egypt. An African expedition which will carry an exclusive band of intrepid adventurers through the heartlands of South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania, Uganda, the Sudan and Egypt.

WE ARE THRILLED TO ANNOUNCE A 28 DAY CAPE TOWN TO CAIRO AND A 28 DAY CAIRO TO CAPE TOWN JOURNEY IN 2010. THIS EPIC FIVE STAR JOURNEY BY RAIL AND AIR PROMISES ADVENTURE, STYLE, BREATHTAKING SCENERY AND OPTIMUM COMFORT.

This 28 day sojourn commences with a train journey from Cape Town to the majestic Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. Between the two destinations is an adventure which includes 4 nights of luxurious accommodation on the train with interesting off-train excursions. After a two night stay in The Victoria Falls Hotel a three hour flight takes you to Zanzibar for a one night stop-over in this tropical island paradise.

Thereafter travel by air to the world famous Ngorongoro Crater followed by a ‘tented camp’ two night stay in the Serengeti – a truly African experience.

Next we fly to Entebbe in Uganda for a two night stay on the shores of Lake Victoria, or you might choose the optional excursion to Rwanda to view the gorillas.

Then it’s on to the largest country in Africa, the Sudan. The convergence of the White and Blue Nile is visible from the windows of your ultra modern hotel in the heart of Khartoum.Your journey deep into the deserts of Africa continues as we fly to Abu Simbel and visit the Temple of Ramses II and his wife Nefertari. Here a relaxing three night cruise on Lake Nasser awaits you. Visit the temples of Amada and Derr as well as the tomb of Penout. Enjoy excursions to Wadi El Sebou and the temples of Dakka, Maharakka and Kalabsha with a morning visit to Beit El Wali and the Kiosk of Kertassi.

Then it’s on to Luxor for 2 nights to experience ancient Egypt in all its splendour as you visit temples, quarries and the Valley of Kings and Queens.

Rejoin the aircraft for the last leg to Cairo where your 28 day adventure ends as you tour the Pyramids, Sphinx and the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities from the exquisite Four Seasons First Residence Hotel. This journey departs from Cape Town on 8 January 2010 with the reverse journey departing from Cairo on 26 January 2010.
